Heidi Smart

I am an unschooling mom to three energetic boys.

When I'm not trying to keep up with them, you might find me on the mats training Jiu Jitsu, scaling a wall rock climbing, or playing the guitar. Our days are loud, messy, and full of imagination.

Before bed, we love telling each other stories, but the inspiration for Little Golden Grove actually came from a frantic afternoon in the yard.

It all Started with a Bee

My oldest son was panicking about a bee. To help him through the fear, I asked him to look at it from the other side: "To that tiny bee, you must look like a terrifying Giant!"

It was a small perspective shift, but it sparked a big idea. That night, "BayBee and the Giant" was born.

That single story unlocked an entire universe.

Suddenly, our nightly story times were filled with fun new friends like GrumbleBee, NewBee, WannaBee and dozens more. We were building a world.

I began using these characters to help my boys solve their own problems and see the world differently, teaching them values like courage and kindness without them even realizing they were learning.

The Dream

Right now, Little Golden Grove is

a collection of stories.

But in our hearts, it is a real place.

It is a dream my family holds of one day owning land filled with bees, sunflowers and peaches. We picture a beautiful place with a little farm stand where my boys can sell their homemade crafts. We want to build a place where love and kindness blossom and everyone is welcome.

Until we plant those real sunflowers,

we're growing stories.

Thanks for helping us plant the seeds. 🌻
